Children's Dentistry

Meeting the Dental Needs of Young Patients

Young people have the same dental needs as grown-ups. That’s why our Madison Avenue office is happy to offer children’s dentistry. We promise to treat your child with the same level of compassion and concern we would provide you as we help him/her develop a healthy smile. We’ll also help your child develop the kind of healthy brushing and flossing habits that could help him/her enjoy better wellbeing throughout life. For optimum oral health, we recommend bringing your child to us for a checkup and cleaning every six months. We recommend that your child visit our practice by their second birthday.

Dental Sealants

When acidic bacteria come into contact with teeth, the protective enamel on the outside of them is threatened. If these bacteria are allowed to build up long enough, cavities can form, requiring treatment with a filling. As part of our commitment to treating young patients, we want to not only treat cavities but prevent them from forming in the first place. That’s why we offer sealants for children and even for adults.

Sealants are applied to the chewing surfaces of teeth, where bacteria can find sanctuary in small pits and grooves. They’re applied as a liquid and then hardened to form a thin plastic barrier that keeps bacteria from touching the teeth. It only takes a short appointment to apply sealants, but they can provide protection for years to come.

Sportsguards/Mouthguards

If you have a child who plays a sport—or if you play a sport yourself—let us talk to you about the benefits of wearing a custom-made sportsguard. A sportsguard is essential for certain sports, like football or hockey, but they aren’t just for contact sports. Even for low- or no-contact sports, a sportsguard can protect the patient from sustaining serious dental injuries. A sportsguard may also reduce the severity of concussions. If you or your child needs help with a custom-made sportsguard, don’t hesitate to let us know.
