These new smile additions are highly functional, lifelike, and built to last! Please contact our office here in Midtown Manhattan today to schedule a first appointment, or if you have any questions.

What is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns (also known as “caps”) are designed to be a perfect representation for the patient’s original crown. When the visible, white surface of a natural tooth needs additional support, this restoration can be used to rebuild its shape, bring back necessary function, and preserve the natural structure underneath. Our dentists may recommend a new dental crown in the following circumstances:

In most cases, the design and creation of a new dental crown will take two appointments here at our Midtown Manhattan practice. First, we will make any necessary adjustments, capture digital impressions of the affected tooth, and provide you with a lifelike temporary in the interim. Then, once we’ve received the finished restoration from our trusted dental laboratory, you will return for the final placement.

What is a Dental Bridge?

Dental crowns are also capable of being combined into a dental bridge, which is named as such because it literally “bridges” the gap left by missing teeth. If you have one or more gaps that appear in a consecutive row, this may be the right reconstructive option.

Traditional dental bridges stay in place within your smile by using crowns as anchors. These “anchors” will be attached over natural teeth on either side of the gap so that the restoration feels, looks, and functions just like the rest of the smile. Alternatively, implant-retained bridges use two dental implants instead. The Drs. Boyd will most likely recommend the latter during your first consultation, as this technique is better for your continuing oral health and will not require natural teeth to be negatively altered. We want to do what is right for you!
